General contractor and design-builder for the Pacific Northwest · Since 1971

Everyone goes home the way they came.

Safety is planned at the work face, every shift, with the crew doing the work. These are the routines and the numbers behind that sentence.

Three people in high-visibility vests talking in a metal-clad workshop.
The First Hour

Fifteen minutes at the start of every shift.

The crew stands at the work, not in the trailer, and plans the next task together: what could hurt someone, what will stop it, and who has authority to stop the work. New workers speak first, because they see what everyone else has stopped noticing.

Program

What every project runs.

  1. First Hour planning

Every crew plans the next task at the work face before starting, every shift.

  2. Stop-work authority

Anyone on site, including trade partners and visitors, can stop work without consequence.

  3. Leading indicators

Plans completed, near misses reported and stop-work calls are tracked weekly on every project.

  4. Training

OSHA 10 for every craft hire in the first sixty days, OSHA 30 for every foreman, first aid for every superintendent.

  5. Trade partner alignment

Partners join First Hour planning and the weekly safety walk; site-specific orientation is required for everyone.

  6. Mental health

An employee assistance program and trained mental-health first aiders on every large site.
